Do I have to be under 18 to publish with Bear Spots Publications?
Yes you do. You must be under 18, or be 18 but still attending high school, Bear Spots Publications only publishes work written by kids.
Do I have to have previous writing experience to publish with Bear Spots Publications?
No, Bear Spots Publications is here to help kids start on their writing journey, it is not expected that you have any writing experience, or any previous published work.
Does my book need to be finished before I approach Bear Spots Publications?
Yes, your book needs to be completed before you come to us. It should be a minimum of approximately twenty pages when formatted for printing, if you are unsure if your book is long enough please contact us and we will let you know. If you don’t think you can write a book long enough then get together with some of your friends and each contribute a short story!
Can I publish any genre of book with Bear Spots Publications?
Yes, Bear Spots Publications will publish ANY genre of book, from picture book, to non-fiction, to fiction, short stories and novels. We cannot however publish magazines or comics. However in the case of short stories we will publish a collection from the same author, or if you provide us only one short story we may hold on to it and wait until we have a number of short stories from a number of different authors before publishing them as a collection of short stories.
What is Bear Spots Publications?
Bear Spots Publications is a self-publishing company that publishes work written by kids.
How much does it cost to publish my book with Bear Spots Publications?
It costs you $250, paid in two instalments of $125.
How many copies of my book will I get?
You will receive only a proof copy of your book, you are paying to have your book available via on demand printing from a number of major online booksellers including amazon.com.
Does the work all have to be my own?
Yes, your manuscript needs to be all your own work, unless you have express written permission from the copywrite holder of work you want to include in your manuscript.
What exactly will Bear Spots Publications do for me?
Bear Spots Publications will, proof and edit your manuscript, format it ready for publishing, work with you to design a book cover or design one for you, provide your book with an ISBN, have your book available for online sales on a number of top online booksellers, promote it on social media, contact reviewers, contact your local library.
If I want to publish more than one book with Bear Spots Publications would I get a discount?
If you want to publish more than one book with Bear Spots Publications we will organise a discount for subsequent books with you.
Will Bear Spots Publications publish any book or does it need to meet certain requirements first?
Unlike other publishing companies Bear Spots Publications will publish any work, we do not take a commission from sales of books so we don’t base our publishing decisions on what we think will sell. We aim to provide ALL kids with the opportunity to begin on their journey as an author by publishing their work. However we do reserve the right to refuse to publish work that we deem to contain inappropriate subject matter, content or language.
